Fadi Kattan's Matbakh: Heritage, Terroir, and National Identity

Fadi Kattan, franco-Palestinian chef and hotelier, has become the voice of modern Palestinian cuisine. When Fadi started his Fawda Restaurant in 2016, he created a cuisine honouring Palestine’s best produce with a modern twist, raising to the challenge of rendering this traditional kitchen into a gourmet dining experience. From a Bethlehemite family that has on the maternal side cultivated a francophone culture and on the paternal side, a British culture with passages in India, Japan and Sudan, Fadi’s cuisine and savoir-faire combine worldly influences, a desire for perfection, and a passion for the local terroir. After completing his hotel management studies at the Institut Vatel and working in Paris and London, Fadi came back to Palestine to join the family business. After 15 years, influenced by the ever-changing situation in Palestine, Fadi decided to go back to his passion, the kitchen.

The first of 3 films on the theme of Gender, Sex and Race. The film follows Segundo , a young boy in Ayacucho in rural Peru whose father Noé is training him in the family tradition of designing and building religious retablos, but whose secret shatters Segundo's world and everything he believes in. Awarded the Best Peruvian film at the 2017 Festival de Cine de Lima. Quechua & Spanish with English subtitles.

Eight women find themselves snowbound in a house with a dead man--a man each of them (his wife, sister, sister-in-law, mother-in-law, daughters, housekeeper, and chambermaid) had reason to kill. Secrets tumble forth, accusations fly, catfights flare, and confrontations turn steamy, all accompanied by campy performances of 1960s French pop songs. French with English subtitles.

A Conversation with Ronit Vered: A Portrait of Cuisine in the Land of Israel

Ronit Vered is a journalist and a food researcher. Her column engages with local food traditions and has appeared weekly since 2007 in the Haaretz newspaper. Ronit is a frequent lecturer and moderator of international panels on themes relating to cuisines and identity, food and politics, the Jewish kitchen, and the flourishing of Israeli and Palestinian cuisines. In the past few years she has also been involved in culinary curation, creating artistic-culinary programs for cultural institutions (including the Tel Aviv university art gallery, the Jerusalem Cinematheque and the Polish Cultural Institute). She teaches a course in Local cuisine culture at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem and acts as senior consultant and Gallery curator at "Asif: culinary institute of Israel".
