30 Years – 3 Decades – 3 Generations

…that is how long we’ve been showing care and concern for our neighbors in need of food in the Greater Pittsburgh Community!

We are excited to embark on the 30^th Anniversary of Carnegie Mellon’s Annual Food Drive, and Staff Council is proud to spearhead this initiative each year!

“Our food drive gets to the heart of two of the university’s Sustainable Development Goals: Goal #2 — to reach zero hunger, and Goal #12 — to reduce consumption and production. For CMU, that starts with eradicating hunger and sharing food resources in our own backyard.”

Again, the food drive is one important way the university demonstrates its commitment to the community. Since its inception, Carnegie Mellon has run one of the highest grossing food drives in the City of Pittsburgh (holding “bragging rights” as THE LARGEST for at least several years!), contributing more than $421,000 and over 79 tons (yes, TONS!) of nonperishables to support those in need. The university is motivated each year to keep our tradition of fighting hunger in the Pittsburgh area alive because we care about our neighbors.  

Our goal this year is to collect $100,000 to support Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, 250 can openers to go directly to the CMU Food Pantry, and any other nonperishables that our community will provide – with a special focus on peanut butter. **

Please be as generous as possible. Gifts of any size are important and appreciated. In fact, every $1 donated to the Food Bank can provide up to three meals!

• Wednesday, Nov. 1^st: Benefits & Fitness Fair Food Drive Table with great prizes
  10am to 2pm, Cohon University Center
• Thursday, Nov. 2^nd: Drive-and-Drop to collect nonperishables
  11am to 1pm, Tepper Garage
• Wednesday, Nov. 8th: Food Drive 30^th Anniversary Event** with Focus on “Parking for Peanut Butter” – stay-tuned for more details!
  Noon to 2pm, behind Merson Courtyard
• Monday, Nov. 13^th: Drive-and-Drop to collect nonperishables
  1pm to 3pm, Tepper Garage
