Back-To-School Basics: What to Expect When Coming to Cyert Hall

Welcome back to the CMU Campus! We have put together a helpful guide on where to go for class, where to eat, and where to park, and information about our COVID-19 safety procedures.

We hope you take the time to read through this guide before coming back to campus. If you have additional questions, please email osher@cmu.edu.

COVID-19 Safety Procedures

We ask that you read over the following practices and procedures that we will be taking, and familiarize yourself with them before returning to campus. We expect everyone to take personal responsibility when returning to in-person courses. Please make sure that you follow the safety procedures that are in place, and feel free to take extra precautions as you feel necessary.

Safety procedures:

  1. Masks must be worn at ALL TIMES. Please see the guide on the right hand side to see what types of masks will be allowed in our classrooms.
  2. Eating and drinking will not be allowed in our classrooms or lounge. Please see the guide at the bottom of this page for dining location recommendations.
  3. Hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes will be available in the Cyert classrooms. Please use them as you feel necessary.
  4. If you feel sick, CMU has asked that you refrain from coming to campus.

Where is Cyert Hall?

Cyert Hall is on Forbes, just down from the corner of Forbes and Morewood as you head toward Oakland. It is on the same side of the street as the University Center and the East Campus Garage. It is a big, black glass building that is on your left hand side as you walk toward the direction of Oakland.

How do I get to our classrooms?

From the Forbes Ave Entrance: Once you enter the doors along Forbes Avenue, there are a lot of signs in the building pointing you in the right direction. After walking in from Forbes Ave, walk straight ahead to the end of the hallway and take the stairs DOWN to Level B. If you choose to take the elevator instead, it is located by making a right turn at the end of the hallway and it will be on your right hand side. Make a left once you exit the elevator to head toward our new space.

From the inner-campus entrance: The inner-campus entrance can be reached by walking across the grassy "cut" and in between Warner Hall (on your right) and the Purnell Center for the Arts (on your left). A small, private parking lot will be on your left, and Cyert Hall will be in front of you on the right hand side. Enter in the first set of glass doors, and use the first door on your left to enter the stairwell. Take the stairwell DOWN two flights of stairs to level B. If you'd rather take the elevator from this entrance, go through both sets of glass doors and immediately take a left down the corridor. The elevator will be on your right side.
