Fall Course Planning Reminders
Dear Pittsburgh-Based Faculty Members and Course Instructors:
As we approach the middle of the semester, I am writing to remind you of two important course planning and scheduling matters.
Fall Break
The 2024-2025 Academic Calendar includes a weeklong Fall Break, which will be held from October 14-18, 2024. To honor this time intended for rest and restoration, please review your syllabi to confirm there are no assignments, large projects or other activities with deadlines during or immediately following Fall Break. Scheduling work during this period undermines the purpose of the break and can create unnecessary stress for our students.
Inclusive Holiday Observations and Interfaith Calendar
Continue to reference the Inclusive Holiday Observations and Interfaith Calendar when planning mandatory activities and assignments to be aware of the religious and cultural observances of our diverse student body. Students are encouraged to work with course instructors to share dates on which they may need flexibility during the semester.
Thank you for your collaboration in maintaining an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all of our students.
Sincerely,
James H. Garrett Jr.Provost and Chief Academic Officer
