Announcing Associate Vice Provost for Academic Budget

Dear Colleagues:

I am pleased to announce that following a national search, Prema Windokun, a financial expert in higher education, information technology and non-profit finance, has been named as CMU’s associate vice provost for Academic Budget and will assume her role on November 15.

Ms. Windokun currently serves as the chief financial officer and vice president of Administration at Fielding Graduate University. She has more than 20 years of financial and managerial experience in both the private and public sectors. Prior to her post at Fielding, she served as the assistant dean of finance for the Life Sciences Division at UCLA and before that was the program manager and financial coordinator for Cedar Sinai Medical Center. Ms. Windokun earned an MBA from California State University-Northridge and a master’s degree in Software Engineering from the APTECH Computer Institute in Chandigarh, India.

As the AVP for Academic Budget at Carnegie Mellon, Ms. Windokun will work to enhance a budget model that supports the university’s education and research mission while serving as a consultant for academic units on budgets, resource planning and financial reporting. Through close collaboration with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Planning and the Finance Division, this role will focus on efficient, effective, transparent and nimble business practices that reinforce the strategic goals for the university community and assist in research, analysis, interpretation and application of data to decisions regarding sustainable and transparent fiscal strategy alongside academic planning.

Ms. Windokun has a proven track record in crafting and managing effective budgetary and financial processes, as well as having a strong commitment to collaboration. I look forward to officially welcoming her to our team in November.

Please join me in congratulating Prema and welcoming her to Carnegie Mellon University!

Sincerely,

Jim Garrett
Provost and Chief Academic Officer
