Carnegie Mellon University

June 1, 2017

Dear Members of the Carnegie Mellon University Community,

You recently received an email from President Subra Suresh announcing his intention to step down as president. I have had the privilege of working with Dr. Suresh throughout his time at Carnegie Mellon, and I want to thank Subra and his wife, Mary, for their many contributions to the university. Subra’s vision has left an indelible mark on CMU, and he has assembled a strong and diverse leadership team that is well-positioned to build on the momentum at Carnegie Mellon.

In coming weeks, the Board of Trustees will appoint an interim president who can continue to build upon the spirit of “One CMU,” with a special emphasis on supporting the university’s outstanding faculty, students and staff. We will share more information later this summer.

This is an extraordinary time for Carnegie Mellon University. With its world-leading strengths at the intersection of technology and humanity, CMU research, innovation and creativity will help shape the 21st century. Carnegie Mellon is positioned like few other institutions around the world to provide the distinctive education and the forward-thinking approach to important challenges that society needs. We appreciate the contributions each of you have made to this extraordinary momentum, and wish you a wonderful summer.

Sincerely,

Jim Rohr
Chairman of the Board of Trustees
Carnegie Mellon University
