Carnegie Mellon University

November 11, 2015

Dear Carnegie Mellon University Veterans,

As we commemorate Veterans Day, I want to thank you for your service and for your commitment to defending our nation. We are proud of all veterans and active-duty members of the armed forces, and we honor your willingness to sacrifice to protect the values we cherish.

The United States is home to the vast majority of the world’s great universities, including Carnegie Mellon. That is due in part to our nation’s devotion to free expression and the unfettered pursuit of knowledge — values preserved through the service of our military forces. In that way, you have made your own distinctive contribution to this university and the opportunities it will provide to future generations.

Here on campus, our veterans bring to their work and education the traits that make veterans everywhere stand out: dedication, determination, discipline, and a blend of self-sufficiency and teamwork that is key to CMU’s culture of entrepreneurship and collaboration.

On behalf of the entire university community, I offer you our sincere appreciation.
