Dear CMU Faculty and Staff,

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Steve Kloehn as the new vice president of marketing and communications, effective April 7, 2015.

Steve will be joining CMU from the University of Chicago, where he is the associate vice president for news and public affairs. A former award-winning journalist and editor, Steve brings 25 years of strategic integrated communications leadership to CMU.

Steve’s many accomplishments include his extensive experience in spearheading comprehensive and strategic integrated communications and marketing campaigns that have raised the national and global visibility of his current institution. At the University of Chicago, he has led communications in areas including international outreach, public affairs, news and media, internal engagement, and issues management. He has regularly provided counsel to unit communication teams, senior executives, academic leaders and faculty.

Prior to joining the University of Chicago in 2008 as director of the News Office, Steve held roles as writer, editor, and deputy editor at a various news outlets in New England and at the Chicago Tribune. Steve holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Princeton University.

In this newly created role, Steve will lead the University Marketing and Communications division, while working closely with the unit marketing and communications professionals, to develop an integrated, unified strategic position for the university and the colleges.

Steve is an accomplished communications executive with a breadth and depth of experience that we need to lead our marketing and communications division and university into the future. Please join me in welcoming Steve and his family to our CMU community.
