Important Reminders for the First Day of Classes

As we count down to the first day of spring 2022 classes, which begin January 18, the University Registrar's Office would like to remind you of important steps you can take to ensure that your semester gets off to a smooth start.

Check Your Schedule

We recommend double-checking your course schedule within Student Information Online (SIO) for any changes, updates or cancellations.

As a reminder, for the first two weeks of the spring 2022 semester (January 18-30), all courses except those listed as In-Person Only (IPO) will be delivered remotely, regardless of the course modality displayed in SIO. The university anticipates returning to in-person courses (or course modalities listed in students' spring course schedules in SIO) January 31. Further information about spring 2022 is available in President Jahanian and Provost Garrett's January 6 email to campus about a Modified Campus Posture. Tips for navigating SIO course modalities are available on The HUB's website.

Finally, the interactive campus map is a useful resource for finding your classroom building. Building abbreviations are available on the Schedule of Classes Legend webpage.

Update Information in SIO

Be sure to answer any survey questions in the bar at the top of your SIO pages as soon as possible, as your answers will assist the university with planning and service delivery this semester. Also, verify that your contact information under the 'My Info' tab is correct, including your local residence address, permanent address, mobile phone, and emergency contact information.

Additionally, if another individual pays your bills, you may wish to invite them to My Plaid Student (MPS) and provide authorization for them to receive copies of your invoices. This can be completed by selecting 'Manage Family & Friends' under the 'My Info' tab.

You may also wish to use NameCoach, a resource which helps support your identity. Through NameCoach, you can record the pronunciation of your name, store a phonetic spelling of your name, and store your pronouns. If you choose to store your information via NameCoach, instructors will be able to access it through Canvas. Instructions are available on The HUB's website.

Follow COVID Safety Guidelines

As fully-informed, responsible members of the Carnegie Mellon community, it is important to review CMU's COVID-19 Information for Students webpage carefully and uphold baseline testing and vaccine expectations so that our community can stay as safe and healthy as possible.
