Special Pass/No Pass Election Period Open in SIO

This is a friendly reminder that the Spring 2020 Special Pass/No Pass Election Period opens today for your location and will remain open until May 17 at 11:59 p.m. Pittsburgh time (Eastern Time/ET).

During this special election period, you may to convert the final letter grade from any eligible course to a pass/no pass final grade. You may make a pass/no pass election for as many eligible courses as you choose. Once you convert a course final grade to pass/no pass, the change is irrevocable and cannot be reversed at a later date.

To make a pass/no pass election:

  • Do NOT use the Pass/No Pass Approval form
  • Instead, log into Student Information Online (SIO) between May 11 and May 17
  • Navigate to the Grades and QPA page under the Academic Info tab
  • Select "Spring 2020" from the semester drop-down menu
  • Click the red "Select Courses to Convert to Pass/No Pass" button
  • Check the boxes next to the courses you would like to convert to Pass/No Pass and click Continue
  • On the confirmation page, check the box to acknowledge that the pass/no pass election is irrevocable
  • Click the red "Convert Selected Courses to Pass/No Pass" button
  • You will be taken back to the Grades and QPA page where you will see a confirmation that your conversion is complete and that your QPA has been recalculated

If you have spring 2020 grades which display as missing (blank), or are anticipating a spring 2020 change of grade from an incomplete (I) or other grade, please be sure to monitor your email and SIO carefully; these grades may be posted during the election period, at which point you will have the option to make a pass/no pass election on SIO.

Should your spring 2020 missing grade or anticipated change of grade not post during the special election period, the University Registrar's Office will contact you separately to provide instructions regarding the decision to make a pass/no pass election at a later date.
