Student Workers: End of Academic Year and Summer Hiring

As the semester draws to a close, we want to share important information with you regarding requirements for student workers.

We ask that you review the Student Worker Services Updates Guide for key details related to the end of the academic year and summer hiring.

For a summary of required actions and deadlines for hourly student workers, please note the following:

• Please remind your student workers to submit any hours worked during the spring semester by Friday, May 19. The deadline for submission and approval of spring hours is Monday, May 22 at noon.
• May 7, 2023 — The Federal Work-Study period ends. Hourly students working beyond May 7 will be charged 100% to the department budget.
• May 8, 2023 — Summer positions can start effective May 8 and must end by August 13. Hourly student workers are permitted to continue working in their AY22-23 positions until May 21.
• May 9, 2023 — Graduating international students may not work beyond this date (last day of finals).
• May 14, 2023 — Graduating students may not work as student workers beyond this date (commencement).
• May 22, 2023 — Current students continuing to work after this date will need to have a new hourly student position entered.
  • Summer Position Effective Dates: May 8, 2023 – August 13, 2023
  • HR will end all AY22-23 positions that started before May 8, 2023.
• August 13, 2023 — Summer positions must end by this date.
  • HR will end all AY22-23 positions that started before August 14.
