Welcoming New Cyert Center Director Matt Rogan
Please join us in welcoming Matt Rogan! Matt Rogan joined the Cyert Center for Early Education team as the director of the Cyert Center on January 30. Matt is a passionate leader whose philosophy of education is that children learn as they play in environments that are conducive to investigation and exploration.
Matt’s background is in early childhood education, leadership and professional development. He has worked in early childhood education for 14 years as a teacher, education coach, professional development instructor, manager and director. He holds a bachelor of science in elementary and early childhood education from Slippery Rock University and has a Pennsylvania teaching certificate in these two areas. In addition, he graduated Summa Cum Laude from Indiana Wesleyan University with a master of arts in organizational leadership.
Prior to joining CMU, he was employed by the Blueprints Head Start program, where he started as a teacher and worked his way to education specialist, practice-based coach, and, for the last three years, education manager. Blueprints is a non-profit organization that serves 20,000 residents in Greene County, Washington County and West Virginia. The Blueprints Head Start program consists of 36 classrooms that serve over 500 children ranging from six weeks to five years old. In his role, he cultivated a leadership team that supports teachers who are charged with providing a meaningful and quality educational experience. Additionally, he has served on state, regional and national boards advocating the need for legislators to prioritize and invest in early childhood education.
Matt’s goal is to bring his passion for and knowledge of education, professional development and leadership to the Cyert Center and continue to drive its commitment to offering the highest quality early education. It has been his long-time dream to not only work in a university setting but also to associate himself with like-minded individuals who are lifelong learners and value early education and research.
Matt has lived in Pittsburgh for nine years with his wife and daughter and enjoys reading, running and spending time with his family. He is originally from a small town in Western Pennsylvania but appreciates the city life of Pittsburgh.
