Carnegie Mellon University
In September 2023, Carnegie Mellon University joined Second Nature’s Climate Leadership Network by signing their Climate Commitment.

Reduction Goal + Deadline Date

As a signatory of the Climate Commitment, CMU has pledged to continue to work toward the goal of Carbon neutrality – or net-zero greenhouse gas emissions.

Carnegie Mellon University plans to eliminate or offset net greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and the Pittsburgh campus has already reduced emissions by 72% in comparison to the 2005 baseline.

Emissions from Scope 1, 2, and 3 sources are measured, translated into metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent, and reported using the Second Nature and GHG Protocol methodology.
