In September 2023, Carnegie Mellon University joined Second Nature’s Climate Leadership Network by signing their Climate Commitment.
Reduction Goal + Deadline Date
Carnegie Mellon University plans to eliminate or offset net greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and has already reduced emissions by 72% in comparison to our 2005 baseline.
As a signatory of the Climate Commitment, the baseline greenhouse gas inventory measures emissions from our Pittsburgh campus.
Emissions from six greenhouse gas and Scope 1, 2, and 3 sources are measured, translated into metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent, and reported using the Second Nature and GHG Protocol methodology.
