Who We Are
Our institute brings together a diverse group of researchers and educators who work with practitioners in public health and emergency management agencies. Our collaborators are drawn from universities, government agencies, NGOs, private companies, community colleges, and K-12 schools. Led by experts from Carnegie Mellon's School of Computer Science and Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the institute also includes researchers from Harvard University, Boston Children’s Hospital, Howard University, Penn State University, Texas A&M University, the University of Washington, the MITRE Corporation, Navajo Technical University, and Winchester Thurston School.
Leadership
Aarti Singh's research lies at the intersection of machine learning, statistics and signal processing, and focuses on designing principled interactive algorithms for learning and decision-making. She earned her Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and was a postdoctoral research associate at Princeton University before joining Carnegie Mellon University's School of Computer Science, where she's a professor in the Machine Learning Department.
Cleotilde Gonzalez, Co-Director
Cleotilde (Coty) Gonzalez is a research professor in the Department of Social and Decision Sciences at CMU, where her work focuses on the study of human decision-making in dynamic and complex environments. She earned her Ph.D. in management information systems from Texas Tech University in 1996 and was a postdoctoral fellow in CMU's Tepper School of Business before joining the faculty in 2000.
