The 2025 AI-SDM summer workshop for high school educators will be held from Monday July 7 - Friday July 11, 2025.
The instructional sessions will be held on Monday, July 7 - Thursday, July 10 and will be live and fully virtual. The research site visit will also be a virtual event held on Friday, July 11.
To ensure we reach the broadest possible audience and maximum impact, we will be prioritizing opportunities for new educators to attend our annual workshop.
However, we value the experiences of returning educators. If you attended last year and are interested in sharing your experiences implementing AI concepts in your classroom, please consider submitting a proposal to be a guest speaker or panelist at this year's workshop. Your insights can be invaluable to our community of educators.
If you require any technology to participate in the workshop, please indicate this on the application form, and a member of AI-SDM will reach out to you.
The workshop is intended for teachers and administrators in the high school setting who are passionate about incorporating AI and its societal implications into their curriculum. We encourage applications from individuals across disciplines, including social sciences, humanities, and STEM disciplines. There is no expectation of prior coding or computer science knowledge.
Yes, we plan to compensate accepted applicants for their time. The exact amount that each participant will receive will be determined at a future date after the number of attendees has been confirmed.
In addition to learning new skills and techniques, the workshop instructors will seek to further build out the curriculum through a participatory design process that directly links with attendees’ current curriculum and looks for ways to infuse AI into their school districts’ programming.
Yes. PA educators will receive Act 48 credits through Carnegie Mellon University at the conclusion of the workshop.
For out-of-state participants, CMU will issue a certificate of completion documenting the workshop program, including the number of professional development hours earned. While we cannot guarantee acceptance, this certificate can be used to request professional development credit from your home institution. We will strive to ensure our programming meets a range of professional development standards by actively researching and incorporating best practices to make the workshop valuable for participants across various states.
Yes! This opportunity will be offered on a yearly basis, and we would encourage you to apply again in a future year.
