CMU Presents IdeasLab at World Economic Forum
Carnegie Mellon was invited to present an IdeasLab at the prestigious World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting, Jan. 25-29 in Davos, Switzerland.
The WEF is a prestigious independent international organization committed to improving the state of the world by engaging business, political and academic leaders, and other leaders of society, to shape global, regional and industrial agendas.
In CMU's session, titled "Leveraging Human-Machine Collaboration With Carnegie Mellon University," each faculty member has five minutes to convey an idea through the highly visual "pecha kucha" style of presentation, followed by a Q&A discussion. Each presentation has 15 images that automatically rotate every 20 seconds. The images are representational — no charts, graphs or text — and serve as background to what each faculty member is discussing.
CMU President Jared L. Cohon will introduce the discussion, which will be facilitated by Tan Chorh-Chuan, president of the National University of Singapore.
CMU presenters are:
- Justine Cassell, Charles M. Geschke Director of the Human Computer Interaction Institute;
- Pradeep Khosla, dean of the College of Engineering, and Philip and Marsha Dowd Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering
- Tom Mitchell, the E. Fredkin University Professor in the School of Computer Science and head of the Department of Machine Learning;
- Manuela M. Veloso, the Herbert A. Simon Professor in the School of Computer Science.
President Cohon represents CMU as a member of the Global University Leaders Forum (GULF), a community of leading university presidents, comprising 26 heads of top global universities. The community fosters collaboration between top universities in areas of significance for global policy and helps shape the WEF agenda.
CMU also presented at the WEF "Annual Meeting of New Champions," Sept. 14-16 in Dalian, China, also known as Summer Davos.
