ChemE Students Place 5th

Carnegie Mellon chemical engineering students placed fifth out of 32 teams in the annual Chem-E-Car Competition, sponsored by The American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE). This year's Oct. 16 event challenged students to transport 350 milliliters of water 68 feet. The competition will be held in Pittsburgh in 2012.

Discounted Tickets to Pittsburgh Opera

Staff Council has arranged for members of the Carnegie Mellon University community to purchase discounted tickets to the Pittsburgh Opera's 2011-12 season. This season's schedule at the Benedum Center includes "The Pearl Fishers," Nov. 12, 15, 18 and 20; "Tosca," March 24, 27, 30 and April 1; and "The Abduction from the Seraglio," April 28, May 1, 4 and 6.  For show times and to purchase tickets, go to http://bit.ly/pnghPw

Nominations Due for CIT Staff Awards

Nominations for the 17th Annual CIT Staff Awards are due to the CIT Dean's Office by Nov. 4. Nominations are also being accepted for the Burritt Education Award. Library Launches Mobile Website

In response to requests from library users and staff, University Libraries has launched a mobile website (m.library.cmu.edu) that's accessible via most smartphones. Features include library hours, directions, and access to the CAMEO catalog, research guides and more. You can also text, email or call the library from the Contact Us section.

Online Training for Faculty and Staff

Carnegie Mellon has an agreement with Lynda.com to provide faculty and staff with on-demand access to more than 50,000 video tutorials from expert authors covering hundreds of courses, including Photoshop, Microsoft Office, email, Flash, Final Cut Pro, design principles, digital photography, print and Web design, digital video, animation, creative inspiration and much more.  Visit http://www.cmu.edu/lynda for instructions and access.

Dining Services Wants Your Feedback

Housing and Dining Services is conducting the National Association of College and University Food Services Customer Satisfaction Survey from Monday, Oct. 31 through Sunday, Nov. 13. You should receive an email on Monday from Housing and Dining Services with your unique identifier for the survey. Details about the survey can be found at http://www.housing.cmu.edu/survey/nacufs.html. All participants will have an opportunity to win prizes, such as free food or a pair of Penguin hockey tickets (donated by the campus vending company, AVI Vending). Campus Superstar Auditions Nov. 1

Auditions for the 2012 Campus Superstar competition (http://www.hilleljuc.org/campussuperstar/) sponsored by the Hillel Jewish University Center of Pittsburgh and modeled after "American Idol," will be held from 6:30 - 9 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 1 at the University of Pittsburgh's William Pitt Union, Room 504. Auditions are open to any full-time undergraduate or graduate student from any local Pittsburgh university. Students should prepare 16-32 bars, A cappella, and avoid originial music.
