Media Panel To Commemorate 10th Anniversary of 9/11

A decade after the 9/11 terrorist attacks on America, a panel of media experts will discuss the global lessons learned from the tragic event, how the media reported one of the most dramatic news stories in history and how the tragedy impacted newsrooms around the world. The discussion, hosted by College of Engineering Dean Pradeep K. Khosla, will be held from noon to 1 p.m., Friday, Sept. 9 in the Singleton Room of Roberts Engineering Hall.

“Media Memories: 9/11 Scribes” will include James R. (Bob) Hagerty, news editor of The Wall Street Journal; Kevin Begos, supervising correspondent of the Associated Press; Rem Rieder, editor of the American Journalism Review; and Richard Snodgrass, author and photographer of “An Uncommon Field,” a book of photos and short prose of the temporary Flight 93 memorial in Shanksville. His book will be available for sale at the event.

In addition to the panel, CMU engineering students will host a “Letters From Home” campaign, collecting thank you notes and condolences for the families of Flight 93 that crashed in Shanksville after passengers fought to overcome the terrorist hijackers onboard.

To reserve your seat at the panel discussion, send email to Chriss Swaney at swaney@andrew.cmu.edu, or Shilo Raube at sraube@andrew.cmu.edu. Box lunches will be available for attendees.
