The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the nominations for the Emmy Awards July 13, and at least 16 Carnegie Mellon University alumni received 17 nods for their work. Additionally, one honorary degree recipient and one faculty member also were recognized. The Emmy Awards will be hosted by Cedric the Entertainer on Sunday, Sept. 19, and will air on CBS.

Technical expertise won the day among alumni, with production design, costume design and lighting design professionals who earned their degrees at Carnegie Mellon garnering the most nominations. These behind-the-scenes wizards worked on projects like The Oscars, "America's Got Talent," the Golden Globes and "Friends: The Reunion." Three acting nominations were part of the announcement Tuesday morning, as well. (The complete list appears here.)

"It's gratifying to see our graduates credited for their remarkable work, both on and off camera," said Dan J. Martin, dean of the College of Fine Arts. "The recognition of these talented alumni illustrates the exceptional artists who come to the School of Drama at Carnegie Mellon and the impactful education they receive here."

Robert A. Dickinson, a lighting designer who received an honorary degree from Carnegie Mellon, was a member of the lighting team nominated for The Oscars. Master of Entertainment Industry Management (MEIM) faculty member, Jonathan Baker, was nominated for the film, "Sylvie's Love," for Outstanding Television Movie. Baker was a producer.
