News Brief: CMU Statement on President Obama's State of the Union Address

Carnegie Mellon University is pleased to be part of the manufacturing innovation institute mentioned by President Obama in his State of the Union address. This institute brings industry, universities and economic development organizations together to shorten the time frame between research breakthroughs and shop floor deployment for a variety of industries, including steel, automotive and airplane manufacturers. CMU's strengths in materials, nanotechnology and robotics, among others, provides valuable expertise to the manufacturing innovation process.

We also support President Obama's call to launch more of these manufacturing hubs, which we believe will be key drivers in company and job creation in the U.S. We again thank the U.S. Departments of Defense, Commerce and Energy, Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett and the Pennsylvania Congressional Delegation for their support of the institute.
