Event: Carnegie Mellon University's Society of Automotive Engineering (SAE) Race Team will dedicate its formula-one-style race car to honor injured Clairton Police Officer James Kuzak Jr., who was shot three times responding to a home invasion last month.

Hugh Ross, a junior in mechanical engineering at Carnegie Mellon and head of the SAE race team, is hosting the event, dubbed "Driving Dedicated: Rev Up Giving," to help raise awareness and money for the veteran police officer who is still recovering from his injuries. Donations will be collected in a homemade wishing well. Ceremonial bagpipers will play as students, Clairton Police officers and Carnegie Mellon police officers help engrave an honor patch on the race vehicle. Students also will demonstrate the speed and agility of the SAE race car.

The event is open to the public. Refreshments will follow the ceremony.

When: Noon - 1 p.m., Wednesday, May 4.

Where: Scaife Hall Garden, off Frew Street and Schenley Park, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pa. 15213.
