News Brief: Campus Superstars

Five College of Fine Arts students have been named finalists in the Hillel Jewish University Center of Pittsburgh's fourth annual Campus Superstar competition. This solo singing competition is modeled after the popular television show "American Idol."

Finalists from the School of Drama include first-year Daniel Bellomy, sophomore Jesse Carrey-Beaver and seniors Mimi Gianopulos and Kailie Torres. Junior Gillian Hassert will represent the School of Music. They will compete against five other finalists from Pittsburgh-area colleges and universities at 7 p.m., Sunday, April 3 at the Carnegie Music Hall. Sophomore drama major Olivia Harris won the 2010 competition, and senior drama major Lee Marks was second runner-up.

Tickets are available for purchase online. Student tickets are $1, and proceeds benefit hunger-relief efforts in Pittsburgh. Proceeds from the adult tickets (starting at $75) and children's tickets (starting at $25) benefit the Hillel Jewish University Center. Contact Linda Myers at 412-621-8875, ext. 101 with questions.
