Event: Carnegie Mellon University's Pradeep K. Khosla will participate in a panel, titled "Cybersecurity, Freedom and Policy," at the 21st Annual Conference on Computers, Freedom & Privacy: "The Future Is Now." The panel will explore the roles governments, companies, users and advocates can and should play in attempting to create a free and safe Internet.
Khosla, a University Professor — the highest distinction a faculty member can achieve at CMU — and dean of the top-ranked College of Engineering, is a founding director of Carnegie Mellon CyLab, one of the largest university-based cybersecurity research and education centers in the U.S. Other panel members include: Marc Rotenberg, moderator and executive director of the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC); Mouhamadou Lo of the legal advisory board of the Computing Agency of Senegal, Presidency of the Republic of Senegal; Ross Anderson, professor of security engineering at the University of Cambridge; Timothy Edgar, senior legal adviser to the Information Sharing Environment at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence; Joe Onek, a principal at the Raben Group; and Stuart Shapiro, a security scientist for MITRE Corp., a not-for-profit that manages federally funded research and development centers.
Additional Carnegie Mellon faculty participating in the conference include: Lorrie Cranor, an associate professor in the Institute for Software Research, the Department of Engineering and Public Policy and Carnegie Mellon CyLab; Alessandro Acquisti, an assistant professor of information technology and policy at the H. John Heinz III College and CyLab researcher; and Latanya Sweeney, an associate professor of computer science technology and policy in the School of Computer Science. Sweeney also founded and serves as the director of the Data Privacy Lab, which works with stakeholders to solve privacy technology problems.
