Bio

Manoranjan Mohanty (Mano) is a Teaching Assistant Professor of Information Systems at Carnegie Mellon University. He holds a B.Sc. in Computer Science from Ravenshaw College, an M.C.A. from Jawaharlal Nehru University, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the National University of Singapore. Prior to joining CMU, Mano held teaching and research positions in Singapore, Sweden, the United Arab Emirates, New Zealand, and Australia, where he built a rich international academic portfolio.


Mano’s academic focus lies in information security and digital forensics, areas in which he has accumulated nearly a decade of experience in teaching, coordinating, and designing undergraduate and postgraduate courses. His pedagogical philosophy emphasizes active, student-centered, and research-informed learning, which has earned him widespread recognition from students and colleagues alike. In 2022, he was honored with the UTS Team Teaching Award for his collaborative contributions to cybersecurity education in Australia.


His research spans a broad array of topics, including multimedia security and forensics, privacy preservation, and social engineering attack mitigation. He has published in prestigious venues such as IEEE Transactions on Information Forensics and Security (TIFS)IEEE Transactions on Dependable and Secure Computing (TDSC)IEEE TrustCom, and others. His scholarly work is complemented by his deep commitment to advancing the cybersecurity and digital forensics communities globally. In these fields, he has given public talks and seminars in multiple countries, such as Japan, Korea, Australia, and Qatar.


Mano is one of the founding members of DFRWS APAC, the Asia-Pacific chapter of the Digital Forensic Research Workshop (DFRWS)—a leading international forum for digital forensics research. He served as the Technical Program Committee (TPC) Chair for the DFRWS APAC 2024 conference, playing a key role in shaping its academic and research agenda. Manoranjan also contributes to the academic community as an Associate Editor for the Elsevier journal Computers & Electrical Engineering, further underscoring his engagement with the global research ecosystem.
