Course Description Verifications

A course description verification letter provides the semester, long and short titles, department and course description that is officially recorded by the university. The course description can be referenced from the student’s official transcript.

The most common reasons for requesting a course description letter include:

  • Employers requesting a description of course content.

  • Applying for permanent residency.

Effective July 31, 2023

The university will no longer produce a letter that states actual skills, enumerated skills or anything not listed in the description. Additionally, academic departments and faculty may not produce skill verification letters.

Letters will not be produced for a student with outstanding financial or community standard obligations.

To request a course description letter, submit a signed Verification Request (pdf) form and email it to uro-verifications@andrew.cmu.edu.
