Exec. Ed Returns to Pittsburgh
The Center for Executive Education in Technology Policy (CEE-TP) returned to Carnegie Mellon University’s Pittsburgh campus for a week of in-person classes from May 20-24, 2024. During this week, CEE-TP offered three intensive courses on ICT policy to tech leaders from around the world.

Global Collaboration in Technology Policy
Carnegie Mellon University’s Center for Executive Education returned to Rwanda in March to deliver two courses in technology policy. The team welcomed 30 participants from 12 different countries: Costa Rica, Egypt, Estwatini, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Mexico, Mongolia, Peru, Rwanda, The Bahamas and The Gambia, to Kigali for a week of lectures from experts, connecting across-cultures, sharing expertise and perspectives.

The Center for Executive Education in Technology Policy (CEE-TP) returned to Bangkok, Thailand for a week of classes, a panel event and networking opportunities. Bringing together 30 participants from 13 different developing countries, the week fostered collaboration, learning and new opportunities.

Anna Gomez Sworn In as FCC Commissioner
Anna Gomez was sworn in as the United States Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) newest commissioner on September 25, 2023. Gomez has served as a speaker in classes offered by Carnegie Mellon University’s Center for Executive Education in Technology Policy’s (CEE-TP) ICT in Developing Countries Program.

CEE-TP Director of Executive Education Presents Ungrading: Will this be on the exam?
The Director of Executive Education at CEE-TP, Dr. Michael Carriger, joined CMU’s 7th Annual Teaching & Learning Summit to present his experience with upgrading, an educational approach that challenges traditional grading systems and focuses on alternative methods of assessment and feedback. The event provided opportunities for colleagues across CMU to share and learn about new instructional strategies and technologies.

ICT Executive Education in Bangkok, Thailand
The Center for Executive Education in Technology Policy (CEE-TP) spent the beginning of August in Bangkok, Thailand for a week of classes, networking events, and academic tours that aimed to help participants make informed decisions about policy issues surrounding two technologies of growing importance: artificial intelligence and cryptocurrencies.

Liberia Newspaper Highlights CEE-TP Classes
Dr. Darren Wilkins, Vice President of Information Technology and Chief Information Officer of the University of Liberia, and a participant in CEE-TP’s Washington D.C. program writes about expanding internet connectivity in Liberia and how Starlink might help in Liberia's Daily Observer newspaper. Dr. Wilkins emphasizes his latest experience attending CEE-TP classes in Washington D.C. and how he is now sharing his newly acquired expertise with those who will currently or will in the future manage the ICT sector.

To support our mission, CEE-TP has launched a Community of Practice (CoP). A community of practice (CoP) brings together people who share a common concern or interest in a topic and come together to share best practices, create new knowledge, and fulfill individual and group goals. Through strategic CoP programming, our hope is to create a valuable and meaningful place for alumni to connect with professionals who support technology policy.

Tech Policy Classes in Washington, D.C.
From May 1-5, 2023, the Center for Executive Education in Technology Policy hosted a week-long in-person program in Washington D.C. at Carnegie Mellon University’s Software Engineering Institute in Arlington, VA. Our group of participants represented 16 different developing countries including the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Indonesia, the Czech Republic, Mozambique, the Philippines, Thailand, Brazil, Vietnam, Costa Rica, Mozambique, Botswana, Vanuatu, Chile, Tuvalu, Cabo Verde, and Liberia.

CMU-Africa at CMU Pittsburgh
Fourteen students from CMU-Africa preparing to travel to Pittsburgh this April for CMU-Africa week. The students will travel to Allegheny County with the goal of building collaboration around research problems relevant to Africa. During the visit, the group will visit various labs and companies in Pittsburgh including the biometrics lab, Mill 19, and Google to learn more about the work being done at CMU Pittsburgh and within the Pittsburgh region.

ICT Exec Ed in Rwanda
The Center for Executive Education in Technology (CEE-TP) hosted in-person classes in Kigali, Rwanda from February 13-17, 2023. More than 25 government, industry, and academic leaders from across the globe gathered in Kigali to network, share best practices, and learn by leveraging expertise from Carnegie Mellon University faculty and colleagues.

New Study on Broadband Labels from CMU Researchers, including CEE-TP Director
The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act requires the FCC to mandate that providers create consumer-friendly labels with information about their broadband services. In response, a CMU-led research team, including CEE-TP Director Jon Peha, recently completed a two-phase user study that surveyed more than 2500 participants to gain insight into what information is most important to US-based consumers, and what formats are easiest to understand.

Doreen Bogdan-Martin elected as ITU Secretary-General
Held every 4-years, The Plenipotentiary Conference is the highest policy-making body of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). This year’s conference was held in Bucharest, Romania from Monday, 26 September through Friday, 14 October 2022. On Thursday, 29 September, member states were tasked with voting for the next secretary-general of the ITU - and the results made history.

CMU and Mastercard Partner To Drive Youth-led Digital Transformation in Africa
Carnegie Mellon University and the Mastercard Foundation, in collaboration with the Government of Rwanda, on September 8, 2022, announced a transformational investment in higher education and innovation in Africa. The $275.7 million partnership with the Mastercard Foundation will significantly expand advanced engineering and technology education at CMU-Africa in Kigali.

CEE-TP Brings Participants to Pittsburgh for Executive Education Course
CEE-TP hosted a weeklong course at CMU for government and industry telecommunications leaders from across the world. Participants came from 12 different developing countries. The week included 2 courses, welcoming remarks from CIT Dean, Bill Sanders and EPP Department Head, Peter Adams and tours of CMU’s NavLab and BioRobotics Lab.

CEE-TP Launches First Executive Education Course
In March 2022, the Center for Executive Education in Technology Policy (CEE-TP), in the College of Engineering, delivered its first executive education course for the Global Telecommunications and Emerging Technology Training program. The course, Regulation in Today’s Competitive Telecommunications Environment, was offered in an online format with live, interactive lectures and classroom discussions delivered by video conferencing.
