Anna Gomez Sworn In as FCC Commissioner

Anna Gomez was sworn in as the United States Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) newest commissioner on September 25, 2023.

Gomez has served as a speaker in classes offered by Carnegie Mellon University’s  Center for Executive Education in Technology Policy’s (CEE-TP) ICT in Developing Countries Program

She had been serving at the U.S. State Department as the leader of the U.S. delegation to the World Radio Conference (WRC).  Gomez had previously led the U.S. National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) as the agency’s Acting Administrator. In a press release, the FCC said “Gomez brings more than 30 years of public and private sector experience to her role and “is committed to ensuring we have a vibrant, strong, competitive telecommunications and media marketplace, that promotes U.S. economic prosperity and security while also meeting the needs of all consumers.”

Gomez is the first Latina to serve in the role in nearly two decades. She shared her experience with the United State’s diversity in telecommunications with her guest lecture during CEE-TPs Enabling Greater Diversity in Participation and Leadership in Telecommunications on a National, Regional and Global Basis class in Washington D.C., where she described how the FCC is implementing policies and programs to advance racial equity, gender equality, and support for underserved communities.
