Candace Skibba specializes in contemporary Spanish literature and film, focusing her research on the intersection of literary and film studies with the study of the body—particularly the abnormal body. Her work in this area has expanded to include gender analysis, disability studies and health humanities. Combining her interests in literary and cultural studies with her teaching approach, she explores agency and empathy in both artistic expression and classroom practices.
