Exchange: Mobile Devices

This page provides an overview of ActiveSync and links to steps to configure it on your mobile device.

What is ActiveSync?

ActiveSync allows you to synchronize email, calendar, tasks and contacts between your mobile device and your desktop/laptop computer. It is the preferred synchronization method for Exchange.

Configuration Steps

If you have questions as you walk through the configuration process, contact your departmental IT administrator or DSP consultant. If your department does not have its own IT administrator or DSP consultant, please contact the Help Center via email to advisor@cmu.edu or by phone at 412-268-4357.

iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch (iOS 4.x)

Follow these steps to configure ActiveSync on an iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch (iOS 4.x). Through the configuration process, you will select which data (email, calendar, etc.) that you wish to synchronize.

Configure ActiveSync 

Unfortunately, it is not practical to provide detailed configuration steps for the all of the mobile devices and models that exist. The general ActiveSync steps provide the basic information you need to synchronize Exchange with your mobile device through ActiveSync.
