NightSafe Transit Schedule
The real-time CMU shuttle tracking system has been upgraded to the TripShot app. Learn more about how to download and use TripShot.
The university's NightSafe Transit service provides free late-night transportation for students and benefits-eligible faculty and staff from campus to the Oakland, Shadyside and Squirrel Hill neighborhoods. NightSafe buses operate from 6:30 p.m. to 4:15 a.m., cycling every 45 minutes. (View NightSafe Transit schedule.) You must have a valid CMU ID to board.
Evening riders should use the university’s main shuttle service while it is in operation before considering using NightSafe Transit to avoid overcrowding and delays on NightSafe buses. Before traveling, please check the Notifications > Alerts section on the bus tracker app for any adjustments to route stops or times.

General rider reminders:
- For health safety, do not ride if you have been exposed to infectious diseases or if you are experiencing any symptoms. Try to avoid unnecessary interaction with passengers and drivers.
- Consider taking an earlier/later bus to avoid overcrowding during peak times.
- Evening riders should use the main shuttle service while it is in operation before considering using the NightSafe Transit service to avoid overcrowding and untimely delays on NightSafe buses.
- When waiting at a bus stop, alert the driver to your presence by using a hand wave or "hail" gesture as the bus approaches to ensure that they notice you and understand your desire to board. When it is dark, using a regular or phone flashlight in your gesturing hand can help the driver see you.
- Tap your CMU ID when boarding a shuttle/NightSafe bus. Using someone else’s CMU ID is not permitted. Learn more about riding eligibility and grace periods.
- No smoking/vaping, eating, cups without lids, and talking on cell phones is permitted while on the shuttle and NightSafe buses.
- Be familiar with the shuttle and NightSafe Transit policies [pdf] before using the service.
