Lab Welcomes Visitor Vitaly Meursault of the Philadelphia Fed
By The Lab
The Accounting AI Research Lab will welcome Vitaly Meursault, Senior Machine Learning Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, for a day-long visit on Thursday, October 22, 2026. During the visit, Meursault will meet with lab faculty and doctoral students and give a lab lecture, "Building Personal Research Factories," at the lab's full meeting that afternoon.
A Tepper PhD alum, Dr. Meursault uses machine learning to study questions in economics and finance. Current work includes extracting economic signals from text and applying natural language processing to regulatory decision-making, where regulators work from large volumes of text. Recent working papers include a study of how equity and debt investors read earnings calls differently, and an LLM-based pipeline that turns historical table scans into research-quality panel data. Meursault also teaches "AI, Business, and Society" at the Wharton School.
Vitaly Meursault holds a PhD in financial economics from Carnegie Mellon University's Tepper School of Business (2020), a master's in financial economics from the European University at St. Petersburg, and an undergraduate degree in history from St. Petersburg State University. Meursault will also present at the Tepper School's accounting seminar on Friday, October 23.
