2025-2026 University Fees

Carnegie Mellon University assesses several standard fees to incoming and current students. A brief description of these fees are below, along with the cost per semester and assessment requirements.

Undergraduate Student Fees

EXPLANATION OF FEE: 2025-26 COST (SEMESTER/ACADEMIC YEAR):* MANDATORY FOR:
The student activities fee is included with all other charges (tuition, fees, etc.) on a student's account and collected in the same manner as all other components of the balance due. The fee is assessed on a nightly basis to any student who meets the fee requirements. The revenue from the fee - both undergraduate and graduate - is allocated to the Student Organizations office (under the direction of the Division of Student Affairs) and used to fund the expense of approved student activities. $157 / $314 Students registered for 19 or more units studying in Pittsburgh, Washington D.C. or Qatar

EXPLANATION OF FEE: 2025-26 COST (SEMESTER/ACADEMIC YEAR):* MANDATORY FOR:
The technology fee is included with all other charges (tuition, fees, etc.) on a student's account and collected in the same manner as all other components of the balance due. The fee is assessed at the time of a student's enrollment each semester. The revenue from the fee is allocated to the university's central Computing Services unit, where it is ostensibly used to fund the networking expenses incurred by the university on the student's behalf.

EXPLANATION OF FEE: 2025-26 COST (SEMESTER/ACADEMIC YEAR):* MANDATORY FOR:
The transportation fee is included with all other charges (tuition, fees, etc.) on a student's account and collected in the same manner as all other components of the balance due. The fee is assessed at the time of a student's enrollment each semester. On the Pittsburgh campus, the revenue from the fee is allocated to the university's Facilities Management & Campus Services which funds the student portion of the university's agreement with Pittsburgh Rapid Transportation (PRT), as well as the campus shuttle service. These services include access to the city's public transportation system and campus shuttling services. $141 / $282

EXPLANATION OF FEE: 2025-26 COST (SEMESTER/ACADEMIC YEAR):* MANDATORY FOR:
The first-year experience fee is included with all other charges (tuition, fees, etc.) on a student's account and collected in the same manner as all other components of the balance due. The fee is assessed at the time of a student's enrollment into each of their first two semesters. The revenue from the fee is allocated to the First-Year Orientation and Family Engagement office, where it is used to fund the expenses incurred by the university for orientation activities for students and their families who are new to the university.

Graduate Student Fees

The activities fee is included with all other charges (tuition, fees, etc.) on a student's account and collected in the same manner as all other components of the balance due. In Silicon Valley, this provides students with unlimited access to Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) and light rail lines in Santa Clara County, as well as Cal Train passes.

In Washington DC, the WMATA's UPass program will provide MSPPM-DC track students with unlimited metro access during the academic year at a significantly reduced rate. Heinz DC campus: TBD
