Federal Exit Counseling

Exit counseling provides important information you need to prepare to repay your federal student loans. Topics include understanding your loans, plans for repayment, avoiding default, and making finances a priority. If you have any questions regarding exit counseling, please contact exitcounseling@andrew.cmu.edu.

Subsidized, Unsubsidized & PLUS Loans

Upon ceasing enrollment and prior to beginning loan repayment, Federal Direct Subsidized, Unsubsidized and PLUS Loan borrowers are required to complete an online exit counseling session. The session provides information about borrower rights and responsibilities regarding loan repayment. This exit counseling session meets the exit requirement for both prior FFELP and current Direct Loan borrowers.

State Exit Counseling

Per PA Act 69 of 2024 (Section 2006-H), we are required to provide you with exit counseling as described in the summary below. Please view the online exit counseling session and direct any question to the contact information provided.

Requirement Summary:
Institutions of Higher Education (IHEs) must provide financial aid exit counseling to students at the end of their final academic term, unless a student elects not to participate. Federal Student Aid (FSA) Federal Loan Exit Counseling does not supplant this requirement. Counseling may be in-person or online, and IHEs may partner with the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency or a similar entity.
