CMU Study Participants Needed: "What Happens to Online Accounts After People Pass Away?"
The CMU CyLab is recruiting people over 60 for a research study about online accounts.
Purpose
The purpose of the study is to explore steps people may take to make sure others have access to their passwords and anything else needed to access digital accounts after they die or become incapacitated or otherwise unable to manage their own accounts. We hope to use this research to improve the process of managing digital accounts in estate planning and identify existing barriers in planning for account management and access.
Procedures
You will be asked to answer some questions about your demographics and to provide an email where we can reach you for an interview. For those invited to the interview, we will reach out by email to schedule an online Zoom interview which will take approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Your responses will be video-recorded and audio-recorded. We will ask questions about your experiences and practices around estate planning and digital accounts, as well as your thoughts on some existing methods for managing and sharing account passwords.
Participant Requirements
Participants must be in the United States, fluent in English, over 60 years of age, and have any type of online account.
Compensation & Costs
If selected for the interview, the compensation for participation in the interview is a $30 Amazon, Apple, Google Play, Instacart, or Target gift card that will be sent via email. Participants will be compensated after completion of the study. There will be no cost to you to participate in this study.
