Theme: Not Just For Kids: Animation
May 16: Yellow Submarine – 1968
The 1968 animated, jukebox musical fantasy adventure comedy film inspired by the music of the Beatles, directed by animation producer George Dunning. The film has credited with generating wider interest in animation as a serious art form. Half a century after its release, it is still regarded as a landmark of animation.
June 20: Monsters Inc. - 2001
The film centers on two monsters, the hairy James P. "Sulley" Sullivan, and his one-eyed partner and best friend Mike Wazowski, who are employed at the titular energy-producing factory Monsters, Inc., which generates power by scaring human children. However, the monster world believes that the children are toxic, and when a little human girl, Boo sneaks into the factory, she must be returned home before it is too late.
July 18: Ratatouille – 2007
The title refers to the French dish ratatouille, and also references the species of the main character, a rat. Set mostly in Paris, the plot follows a young rat Remy who dreams of becoming a chef at Auguste Gusteau's restaurant, and tries to achieve his goal by forming an unlikely alliance with the restaurant's garbage boy, Alfredo Linguini.
August 15: Wall E – 2008
An animated romantic science fiction film that follows a solitary robot named WALL-E on a future, uninhabitable, deserted Earth in 2805, left to clean up garbage. He is visited by a robot called EVE sent from the starship Axiom, with whom he falls in love, and pursues across the galaxy.
September 19: Inside Out – 2015
A coming-of-age film that follows the inner workings of the mind of Riley, a young girl who has trouble adapting to her family's relocation as five personified emotions administer her thoughts and actions.
October 17: Sing – 2016
An animated, jukebox musical comedy film set in a world inhabited by anthropomorphic animals, the film focuses on a koala named Buster Moon, a struggling theater owner who stages a singing competition in an effort to prevent his theater from entering foreclosure, as well as how the competition interferes with the personal lives of its contestants.
November 21: Coco – 2017
The film follows a 12-year-old boy, named Miguel, who is accidentally transported to the Land of the Dead, where he seeks the help of his deceased musician great-great-grandfather to return him to his family and reverse their ban on his playing music.
