60 Seconds to Better Security: What is Ransomware Transcript

What is ransomware? Let's play!

Ransomware is a type of software that let's cybercriminals take control of your important data and hold it hostage until you pay them a ransom. Here's how it works, if ransomware infects your computer, it encrypts your files making them unusable. It's like your computer is locked in a cage. To unlock your data, you need a special code called a decryption key. But the scammers won't give you the key until you pay them. Even if you pay, there is no guarantee that you will get your files back. Ransomware spreads through phishing emails, infected files, and compromised websites. It could lock you out of important work files causing costly damage. It can also lock you out of personal devices destroying files you love such as family photos and home videos. Fortunately you can learn to avoid ransomware and becoming a victim. Remember, when it comes to cybersecurity we all need to level up.
