About ISA

Created in the fall of 2013, Carnegie Mellon University’s Institute for Strategic Analysis (ISA) provides a focal point for high-level, strategic engagement with the defense, diplomatic, and intelligence communities through activities supported by several of CMU’s participating colleges. ISA serves as an umbrella under which the colleges may work together on initiatives relevant to national military readiness and diplomacy; it also provides a neutral ground for the colleges as they interface with external national security and diplomatic organizations. ISA’s role is to facilitate and coordinate strategic initiatives that showcase policy-relevant research by the CMU faculty and to help policy makers think through ways in which basic science may be applied to real-world problems.
