In his classic 1984 book, The Imperative of Responsibility: In Search of an Ethics for the Technological Age, Hans Jonas explains how all prior ethics are inadequate for guiding the technological advancement of mankind to produce a sustainable civilization. Jonas' thinking has permeated the work of Terry Collins in developing the college-level class, Chemistry and Sustainability. Jonas' writings also underpin the research of the  IGS, especially the efforts to develop TAML Activator technology in the light of understanding of endocrine disruption and to help deal with reducing and eliminating endocrine disruptors. Dr. Collins views Jonas' thinking as important for developing an authentic green science and for educating students and the public to help secure a sustainable future.
