Diversity Recruitment Advocates
The Office of Human Resources (OHR), in conjunction with the Learning and Development Team and the HR Talent Team, is launching a new initiative: the Diversity Recruitment Advocate program. The purpose of the program is to advance Carnegie Mellon University’s efforts to attract staff from underrepresented populations and embrace our mission to cultivate a transformative university community committed to attracting and retaining diverse, world-class talent. Diversity Recruitment Advocates will work directly with recruiters within OHR to develop more diverse applicant pools, reinforce inclusive selection practices and promote equitable hiring for all staff positions across the university.
This program is in line with President Jahanian’s message on July 2, 2020 regarding confronting racism. In particular, this program seeks to uphold the president's commitment to promote greater equity in our recruitment efforts and to expand unconscious bias training for those who are a part of search committees.
OHR is targeting a winter timeframe to seek nominations from the designated Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) leads for each division. Following nominations, accepted candidates will participate in training which will require pre-work and instructor led training. The training will provide Diversity Recruitment Advocates with further information on the hiring process, applicable rules and regulations, unconscious bias training, and tools to succeed as an advocate during the search process. After the training, they will be ready to participate in the search process and be an advocate for DEI principles.
