Recommended First Semester Courses

The Dietrich College Academic Advisory Center (AAC), in conjunction with the QSSS program, has issued the following list of recommended first semester courses. All incoming QSSS students will be assigned an AAC Academic Advisor who will work with them over the summer to plan and register for courses.

  • QSSS First-Year Seminar: Applied Quantitative Social Science 1, 66-106.
  • Reasoning with Data, 36-200.
  • Differential and Integral Calculus, 21-120 or a subsequent calculus course for those with AP credit.
  • Computing @ Carnegie Mellon, 99-101.
  • Introductory course for major(s) of interest.
  • Elective course of choice.

Recommended Second Semester Courses

  • First-Year Writing Requirement
  • Global Histories, 79-104.
  • A subsequent calculus course in your major’s sequence, i.e. Calculus in Three Dimensions, 21-259.
  • A subsequent major course core requirement.
  • Elective course of choice.
