Schedule of Events

Saturday, May 19

9 a.m.

Honors Ceremonies
All ceremonies will take place on campus.

  • At these college-wide ceremonies, undergraduate students receiving university or college honors will be presented with their medallions and cords.
  • Associate deans will issue invitations to qualifying students and their parents beginning in mid-March and continuing through mid-April (depending on when a student’s grade point average is finalized).
  • Tickets are not issued and there is no limit on the number of guests.
  • Ceremonies last approximately one hour. Some may be preceded or followed by a reception.

3:30 p.m.

Robing for All Doctor's Hooding Ceremony Participants 
Carnegie Music Hall Foyer, Carnegie Museum, 4400 Forbes Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15213 (off campus)

  • Robing is for doctor's candidates and faculty hooders only. Guests should proceed directly to the ceremony. 

4:30 p.m.

Doctor's Hooding Ceremony 
Carnegie Music Hall, Carnegie Museum, 4400 Forbes Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15213 (off campus)

  • At this ceremony, all Ph. D. graduates will be individually hooded and recognized on stage.
  • Doors open at 3:30 p.m.
  • Tickets are not issued and there is no limit on the number of guests.
  • The ceremony lasts approximately 90 minutes.
  • A reception will immediately follow in the Carnegie Music Hall Foyer.

Sunday, May 20

9 a.m.

Gesling Stadium Opens

  • Seating is first come, first served. 

10 a.m.

Robing for All Commencement Ceremony Participants
Various locations on campus

  • Robing is for all graduates and ceremony participants only. Guests should proceed directly to the stadium.
  • All guests must be seated by 10:15 a.m. for the procession of graduates into Gesling Stadium. 

11 a.m.

Main Commencement Ceremony
Gesling Stadium

  • The ceremony begins with the procession of graduates and will include addresses from the student speaker and keynote speaker, as well as a charge from the president of the university.
  • Seating is first come, first served.
  • The ceremony takes place outdoors in Gesling Stadium, rain or shine! The stadium is NOT covered and there is no shade.
  • An indoor simulcast and a webcast will be available.
  • Graduates will receive their diplomas at department/college diploma ceremonies, which take place throughout the weekend. A complete schedule will be posted in December.
