Carnegie Mellon University

An Update on Commencement 2021

The University has recently announced that, in an effort to continue mitigating the risk of spreading COVID-19 and in accordance with Pennsylvania's restrictions on in-person events, this year’s commencement exercises will be conducted virtually through an online conferral of degrees program. The university is exploring limited opportunities for in-person engagements around commencement for those students that are in Pittsburgh. CMU’s other campuses and locations will make decisions about programs based on local conditions and restrictions.

Over the next several weeks, CMU leadership will engage with representatives of the graduating class and the academic community as we develop plans for commencement.

We remain committed to honoring both the Class of 2021 and the Class of 2020 with an in-person celebration event on campus as soon as it is safe to do so.

Future updates and announcements will be posted on this website.
