Remembering Beverly Clayton

Beverly Clayton was one of the first employees of the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center (PSC), starting in 1986, and served as executive director until her retirement in 2006. Clayton loved to tell the story of her interview with PSC Directors Ralph Roskies and Michael Levine and how she was hired on the spot. With her tireless effort, she helped make PSC what it is today.

Clayton was the “heart and soul” of PSC. She had an open-door policy where anyone could always go in and talk to her. She always handled issues and problems diplomatically and with grace.

Clayton worked enthusiastically for over 20 years on the SC (Supercomputing) conferences serving many roles of which one was conference chair. She was instrumental in helping to bring the SC conference to Pittsburgh in 1996 and in 2004 with Jeff Huskamp.

Clayton passed away suddenly on Wednesday, March 4.
