Expanding Campus Lactation Room Access

In collaboration with Highmark, UPMC and the Graduate Student Assembly, the Office of Human Resources purchased and placed three Mamava pod units on campus to increase access to lactation spaces.

The Mamava pods are freestanding suites for nursing parents to pump or breastfeed. Each unit includes comfortable benches, a fold-down table, an electrical outlet for a breast pump and a door that can be locked for privacy. The units are mobile and can provide a lactation space in buildings where there is no dedicated lactation room or where demand exceeds capacity. They are currently located in Tepper, TCS and Porter Hall.

In addition to our Mamava pods, the Office of Human Resources manages several other lactation spaces on campus, including new rooms in Scaife Hall and 6555 Fifth Avenue. Anyone who would like access to campus lactation spaces is welcome to fill out an Access Request Form for themselves, their guests or for campus events. Registered lactation room users will receive instructions for accessing the Mamava pods.

CMU is committed to providing a family-friendly work environment. Our Lactation Support Program includes a host of resources for lactating individuals and parents of newborns.
