Hybrid Teaching Spaces with Resident Zoom Technology

Rooms with resident Zoom technology give you the ability to start a Zoom meeting from the touch panel. Panel controls are similar to what you would see in the Zoom app on your computer. Follow the step-by-step instructions below.

These spaces allow both in-person and remote students to learn, collaborate, and participate in a classroom instructional environment.

Connect to Zoom

Use the panel to connect to Zoom and not your laptop. This gives you better control over the cameras and other room technology.

  1. Tap Conferencing on the touch panel and then Zoom App.
  2. Tap Join and then enter the Meeting ID and Passcode from the meeting invite. Or, use your personal meeting ID.
  3. Use the Zoom Controls on the touch panel's Zoom App screen to control volume, record, chat, invite, etc.
  4. Tap End Meeting for All to end the Meeting.

Note: Camera controls are available once you start your video. 

Switch Between Controls

Once connected to your Zoom meeting

Swipe down from the top of the touch panel and tap Home to move from the Zoom App to other room controls (e.g., camera and display).

Return to the Zoom meeting

Tap Zoom App on the panel.

Note: If you returned to the main panel screen, tap Conferencing > Zoom App

 

After I'm connected to my Zoom Meeting, I want to...

WHAT I NEED: A laptop with your presentation

WHAT I DO: Open the presentation on your laptop.

  1. Swipe down from the top of the Zoom App screen to display the panel menu.
  2. Tap Home.
  3. Tap Presentation (bottom) and select Laptop.
    Zoom supports only single-device sharing.
  4. Tap Zoom App.
  5. Tap Share Content and then Share to Meeting.
  6. Tap Sharing Content to stop sharing.

Note: your presentation will also display on the room projectors.

WHAT I NEED: Materials to share with the document camera

WHAT I DO: Place the materials under the document camera.

  1. Swipe down from the top of the Zoom App screen to display the panel menu.
  2. Tap Home.
  3. Tap Presentation (bottom) and select Document Camera.
    Zoom supports only single-device sharing.
  4. Tap Zoom App.
  5. Tap Share Content and then Share to Meeting.
  6. Tap Sharing Content to stop sharing.

Note: The document camera will also display on the room projectors.

WHAT I NEED: A designated student(s) with presentation materials

WHAT I DO:

For in-person students

Control the presentation for the student

  1. Obtain a copy of the student's presentation materials in advance of the class. 
  2. Share the presentation with both in-person and remote students.  
  3. Use your laptop to assist with presentation advancement on behalf of the student. 

Student uses personal device to share via the Zoom meeting

  • Tap Zoom App, select Security and then Share Screen. A checkmark will appear, and students will be able to share for the remainder of the class.

Instruct the student to:

  1. Bring a personal device into the classroom with the presentation materials.
  2. Join the Zoom meeting
  3. IMPORTANT! DO NOT have the student join the audio for the meeting (if prompted). If the device is connected automatically, click the ^ arrow next to Mute/Unmute and select Leave Computer Audio to prevent feedback.
  4. Click Share Screen to present the materials.

Student uses personal device to connect wirelessly through the Zoom meeting. 

  1. Tap Zoom App, select Security and then Share Screen. A checkmark will appear, and students will be able to share for the remainder of the class.
  2. Share the presentation with both in-person and remote students. Select Wireless Presentation for the Share Content.  

Instruct the student to:

  1. Bring a personal device into the classroom with the presentation materials.
  2. Follow the steps on the screen to connect his/her device.

Remote students can share their screen within the Zoom meeting.  

  1. Tap Zoom App, select Security and then Share Screen. A checkmark will appear, and students will be able to share for the remainder of the class.
  2. Instruct the remote student to:
    1. Click Unmute to open his/her microphone.
    2. Click Share Screen to present the materials. 

* This option is only available in rooms with a wireless collaboration option.

Zoom App Options

  1. Tap Camera Control on the Zoom App screen.
  2. Use the options to pan/tilt, zoom in/out or turn off mirroring.

Panel Options

  1. Swipe down from the top of the Zoom App screen to display the panel menu.
  2. Tap Home then Video.
  3. Use the controls to pan/tilt the cameras.
  4. Choose the camera.
    • Presenter > Home (under preset) - wide front view of the room
    • Presenter > Chalkboard (under preset) - zoomed-in view of chalkboards
    • Audience - wide view of the audience
  5. Tap Auto Tracking to turn off/on.

  1. Tap Zoom App.
  2. Tap Record. All participants will be notified via an audio message that the meeting is being recorded.
  3. The recording will be saved to your Zoom account. 

Note: Unless you enable the setting Auto delete cloud recordings, recordings saved to the Zoom cloud will remain in place until manually deleted.
