US Military and Intelligence Community Partnerships
Carnegie Mellon University's Institute for Strategic Analysis (ISA) partners with organizations from the US military and intelligence community to host high-level events to advance research and policy analysis.
- In February 2020, ISA, in partnership with CyLab, will host the annual visit from the US Army War College International Fellows. This group is comprised of nearly 80 Fellows from around the world, who are invited to the position by the Chief of Staff of the United States Army. Throughout the course of the day, the group will hear from various faculty members across campus to deepen their understanding of the work being done in AI and emerging technology at CMU and how that might impact the work they are doing at the US Army War College.
- In April 2019, ISA hosted a day-long "Blue Sky" discussion, where thirty of the world's top experts in the field of terrorism studies workshopped several scenarios about the future of global Jihadism. This partnership with the intelligence community provided an opportunity to explore potential outcomes in a meaningful way that will inform analytic products.
- United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) selected CMU as one of the locations around Pittsburgh for its 2019 Sovereign Challenge. The week-long conference unfolded at venues across Pittsburgh, including the Heinz History Center, for remarks from Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto and from Secretary of the US Air Force the Honorable Heather Wilson. In addition to organizing panels for the entire conference, ISA partnered with CyLab to put together a half-day of programming on campus around the theme of CMU AI for national defense, irregular warfare, and Nation-State sovereignty.
