Data Analytics Sharing Hub

The Data Analytics Sharing Hub (DASH) provides a central resource for easy access to data visualizations (dashboards) and reports from academic and administrative departments. Campus affiliates can use this information to discover, share, and guide decisions.

If you cannot locate the data you need, other data can be requested. Please review the Data Access Guiding Principles to learn about considerations for data access decisions.

If you are off campus or using a mobile device network, connect to the CMU Virtual Private Network (VPN).

Data Access Guiding Principles

Access to University data should enhance the ability of the University to achieve its missions, identify efficiencies in operations, and ensure our students receive timely, appropriate, and efficient support. Wherever possible, institutional data should be made available to all members of the University who have a legitimate business need for academic, research, or administrative purposes. Data access decisions are the responsibility of the appropriate data steward(s) who will follow and abide by these data access guiding principles in making data access decisions and promoting transparency for data access requests.

The following are the guiding principles for determining access to the University's enterprise operational data:

  • Governance: Data are valuable, and sometimes sensitive, institutional assets whose collection, use, distribution, and final disposition require ongoing oversight and maintenance.
  • Purpose: Trust but verify the appropriate business need, use, and sharing of data. Inline with the Guidelines for Internal Data Use and Sharing, those who share data are responsible for verifying accuracy and approved use.
  • Compliance: All data access decisions must adhere to applicable university policies and guidelines as well as federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Interoperability: Data is provided in consisten formats and policies for different systems, services, or applications to promote secure and easy consumption between source and target systems/applications.
  • Discoverability: Ease for authorized users to find data across different systems.
  • Ethical Use: Ensure that data practices, collection, use, and sharing are transparent, fair, and designed to mitigate potential biases.
  • Security: Access to data is determined by the appropriate data steward(s) based on:
    • The Data Classification designation for the data,
    • The proper security controls in place, and
    • The risk to the Universirt and/or University community members.
