In this visionary talk, we will explore the most pressing challenges facing the energy industry in the coming decades, focusing on the complex issues that demand interdisciplinary research, innovative solutions, and collaborative efforts from policymakers, regulators, and industry stakeholders. As we contemplate the future of the energy landscape, this presentation aims to identify the critical areas that could benefit from the dedication and expertise of Ph.D. students and research teams in order to drive meaningful change and progress.
Seyed Madaeni is the co-founder and CEO of Verse, a San Francisco-based SaaS start-up that empowers organizations to define and achieve their sustainability goals. With electricity contributing to a third of global greenhouse gas emissions, Seyed recognized the urgent need for companies to procure clean power. Yet, despite the corporate imperative, buying clean energy remains a complex process requiring specialized expertise and tools. Verse addresses this challenge by offering cutting-edge software solutions that simplify clean energy procurement for businesses of all sizes.

Before founding Verse, Seyed served as the Chief Digital Officer at Fluence, where he played a central role in the company's successful $5B+ IPO, overseeing its digital offerings and managing a team of over 150 full-time employees, Seyed was instrumental in growing the company's renewable portfolio to over 15GW. Earlier in his career, Seyed was the CEO of AMS, where he pioneered a wholesale market bidding software business model that eventually led to the company's acquisition by Fluence. Seyed also contributed significantly to Tesla and SolarCity, providing technical oversight for several groundbreaking wholesale market-facing software applications.
