What is Supplemental Instruction?

Supplemental Instruction (SI) is an academic enrichment program that is offered in traditionally difficult courses. SI sessions are regularly scheduled discussion and review sessions facilitated by trained “SI Leaders”, students who have previously completed the course and received an A in it. SI Leaders attend all class lectures, take notes, and act as model students.

SI sessions are designed to supplement – not replace – class lectures and recitations, Students who attend sessions learn to integrate what to learn with how to learn. All students are encouraged to attend SI sessions, as it is a voluntary program. Students with varying levels of academic preparedness participate.
