Carnegie Mellon University

GSA Stipend Report 2021-2022

Each year, the Graduate Student Assembly surveys all of its representatives across different departments to get information on stipends given to PhD students in their departments. We also gather information on any fees or health insurance that is paid by the department. You can compare the report below with the previous years.

Important Notes

  • ‘Yes’ means the department covers this cost for you
  • As of the 2021-2022 academic year, Carnegie Mellon provides a health insurance subsidy of 50% to all PhD students. The cost of health insurance with no subsidy is $2,261. ‘Yes’ means a department offers additional health insurance subsidies above the university's 50% baseline.
  • The data is the product of self-reports. If you believe any information is incorrect, e-mail gsa-vpcomm@andrew.cmu.edu.
  • The table below does not represent all PhD programs or all PhD students in a given program and it does not account for funding from other sources
